The Assassin

The Pakistani government has come up with a few tales about who, how, and what killed the Former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Benazir Bhutto.  The story she was ’so to speak’ buried with was that she died from a severe blow to the head.  The blow to the head came when her head hit the top area of the SUV from which she was standing through, essentially the sunroof.  The video here, presented by the Guardian (English newspaper) website, does what the CNN and other major networks showing the video do not do and that is zoom in on the gun that fired at Bhutto.

In the video you will initially and distinctly hear 3 shots and 1 explosion.  All four ‘pings’ so to speak are in complete and albeit coordinated succession, as if the assassin told the bomber “after three shots hit the detonator.”  The video does indicate the assassin had very close proximity to Bhutto, in fact with the gun outstretched it appears to by a few inches above the rim of the roof of the SUV, but the video does not indicate it was direct line of sight.

Another visual depiction shown on Fox News, but apparently first shown on Pakistan TV, at approximately 11:00am pacific standard time, shows the assassin in full avail.  He is wearing what appears to be an orange vest with a white fabric/clothing piece underneath.  The gun is held in his right hand and is pointed up toward Bhutto.  As the video shows the assassin had close proximity to Bhutto as she was standing through the sun roof of the car, however the picture shown on Fox News indicates that the assassin had direct line of sight to Bhutto.  The assassin appeared clean shaven, with longish hair, and was wearing sun glasses.  Judging by his young looks, bright shirt/clothing, and depicted cleanliness it is clear this man prepared for this attack, prepared to die, and wanted to be noticed.  Being that he is likely young, it isn’t far off that he was recruited.  However, that being said it would not be surprising if he had ties to Pakistan’s Security Forces or Intelligence Forces.

In both the video and the picture Bhutto has her back turned to the assassin.  There do appear to be two men climbing over what I would presume to be the right side of the vehicle and waving their hands, as I would say, frantically.  Both of them don’t appear to be looking at Bhutto or trying to reach out and touch her, however their stern facial expression and hand/arm movements suggest that they were trying to warn Bhutto or Bhutto’s ‘peopple’ about the gun, which was clearly in their line of sight.

In conclusion based on the video evidence I find it very likely that ‘a’ bullet of at least three fired, did hit Bhutto.  Judging by the assassin’s inability to hold the gun straight after the first shot, I would say the first shot hit her.  She immediately would then slump back into the vehicle, but because of the narrow cavity of the SUV and her obvious inability to control her movements she would not make it entirely into the SUV.  I would venture to say that after the first shot, part of her body from at least the chest up would still remain in or around the opening of the sunroof.   Therefore it is very likely that after the rattling blast a part of her upper body hit the roof or sides of the sunroof opening, potentially damaging that area of her body, and in effect killing her completely.

So, the Pakistani government isn’t far off from saying that a blow to the head caused by a hit to the car is what killed her.  However, it is likely that the bullet killed her or put her into critical condition, and the blow into the car by some other force (either second bullet or blast) finished her off, not to put it lightly.

This brings this tale to who done it.  Judging by the assassin’s how and what I would say that he is a terrorist. However, judging by the Pakistani government’s tale about how a blow to the head killed Bhutto with no mention of some sort of weaponry used in the process points to the government’s wanting of a cover-up.  If nobody claims forensics on the weaponry it can’t be traced.  On top of all that even though both Open Source and Signal Intelligence points to al Qaeda’s and al Taliban’s involvement, they do not claim responsibility for the attack.
