I don’t understand the Police. A student at Cal Poly State University wrote into the Mustang Daily (Campus Newspaper) regarding an encounter he had with campus police (who are certified police officers), and this police officer was writing up this student for a parking violation, when in fact the student was just dropping off his drunk friends (doing a good deed if you ask me). The student noted how, “here was this officer who was writing me up for a parking violation, even when I had the car running and the lights on, where up in the dorms, you could find any amount of booze, marijuana, and other contraband or elicit activities. Officer… glorified parking attendant.
Now, don’t get me wrong, every now and then an officer will get into a situation where deadly force is needed. Therein the need arises for the officer to treat every situation as if the encounter may turn deadly. However, what gives the officer the right to enforce the laws that are easily enforceable rather then those that may require some work? I think Officers develop a certain mentality that I cannot myself describe, not being an analyst of such things, but no doubt it exists via examples if nothing else.
For example, in local Oceanside, San Diego, an off duty Officer of the Law was driving when he got into a confrontation with another driver. One followed the other into a Lowe’s parking lot. A verbal confratation ensued and the off duty Officer eventually opened fire on the the other driver. The other driver was a women and mother of her 8 year old son who was in the passenger seat, neither she nor her son ever left the car during the confrontation, nor were any weapons of any sort found in the women’s car. The Officer fired at least 5 bullets at the women’s car, hitting the women in the arm, twice, and hitting the son in the knee once. He only identified himself as an off duty officer after he had shot the victims.
If it were anybody else on the face of the planet, the shooter would of have been jailed within seconds, if it were Black people in the car, I would currently be blogging as far as I could get from San Diego. But today this trigger happy Officer is on the streets, able to harass, and if he feels like it, use deadly force on the citizenry. The Oceanside Police Department has yet to release any footage of the incident, and have suspended the officer - paid administrative leave, never mind the fact that while out of uniform he opened fire on an unarmed women and her son, because of a driving foul (if he were on duty perhaps he would of been a little nicer and only given the women a ticket and possible tasered her son for a good laugh).
The fact that this Officer has yet to be arrested is a testament to how the Police conduct themselves. Words cannot describe the hypocrisy and shear idiocy of the situation.
